About
Still Air is a breathing and focus timer that opens in a tab and asks nothing of you. No account, no subscription, no streak to break. I built it because I kept bouncing off everything else.
Open the timerWhat it does
Breathe paces four rhythms with a softly expanding circle and a struck singing bowl at each turn, so you can follow it with your eyes closed. Gentle is four seconds in and four out; Relaxing doubles the exhale; Box adds holds for steadiness under pressure; 4-7-8 is the long wind-down.
Focus runs 25, 50 or 90 minute sessions with real breaks, a bell rather than an alarm, and a place to write the one thing you are working on before you start.
Days keeps a quiet record. That is the whole app.
Why it works this way
Every decision here came from noticing where people actually give up. It is almost never the breathing.
- No account. Signing in exists only so your history can follow you between devices. Everything works without it, and always will.
- No streaks. A missed day shows as an empty circle, never as something broken. Streak pressure recruits exactly the anxious, self-evaluating part of the mind you came here to quiet.
- No live clock in the immersive modes. Watching the seconds is the opposite of settling. You get a quiet summary at the end instead.
- Something to look at. Plenty of people cannot sit with their eyes closed and an empty mind. Drift breathes the whole screen with you; Gaze is a single ember on the dark. Both give restless attention something effortless to rest on.
- A minute counts. One slow exhale measurably changes your heart rate. Sixty seconds between two meetings is a real practice, and it is the one you will actually do.
How it is built
A static page and a small Cloudflare Worker. The bell is not an audio file — it is synthesized in the browser from the inharmonic partials a real bowl produces, with the fundamental doubled slightly out of tune to give it the shimmer. That means the whole app works offline, including the sound.
There are no ads, no analytics beacons and no third-party trackers. If you never sign in, nothing you do here leaves your device — see the privacy policy, which is short and true.
Who made it
One person, for their own use, then shared. It is free, and there is no plan to charge for it or to sell anything inside it.
If it helped, or if something is broken, I would genuinely like to know: hello@comebackhere.org.
Where to start
If you have never done this before, open the timer, leave it on Gentle and press Begin. That is it. When you want to know which rhythm suits which moment, two minutes between tasks is the practical version, and why breathing out calms you explains what is actually happening.
